Title: "Gene regulation and the genetic basis of speciation and adaptation in house mice, Mus musculus"
Abstract: A major goal in evolutionary biology is to understand the genetic details of how new species arise as well as how they adapt to novel environments. I will discuss recent studies documenting the role of gene regulation in reproductive isolation between two subspecies of house mice. I will also describe the genetic basis of environmental adaptation in house mice that have recently colonized North and South America from Europe. Changes in gene regulation appear to play a major role in both speciation and adaptation.
