This April, twenty new students joined the 2022 cohort and found their home in the Columbia Biological Sciences PhD program. I hope they’re as excited about starting this new chapter as I was when I went through recruitment five years ago.

This year's winners of the prestigious NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP) have been announced, and they include four Biology PhD students who were offered awards, as well as one Biology PhD student who received an Honorable Mention.
Thanks to a generous gift from Professor Alexander Tzagoloff in memory of Professor Cyrus Levinthal (1922-1990), the Department of Biological Sciences is increasing the travel funds available to each PhD student during their graduate career from $1500 to $2000.
We are pleased to announce our annual prizes to our most outstanding Ph.D. students. For this year only GSAS has also provided us with an additional prize from the New York Community Trust.
