Full Research Description:

Originally from Massachusetts, I graduated from Hamilton College in 2016 with a B.A. In Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. Post college, I pursued photojournalism for a year before returning to science and researching circulating tumor cells in Dr. Daniel Haber and Dr. Shyamala Maheswaran’s lab at Massachusetts General Hospital.

In my previous research I worked on developing a classification model that can discern liver cancer patients from the high risk chronic liver disease population based on transcripts extracted from their peripheral blood. I hope to bring this oncology focus into my time at Columbia by exploring the genetic interaction between tumors and the immune system with an eye for immune signatures that can be detected outside of the tumor microenvironment.

Outside of Science, I love to tinker with and fix machines (cars, bicycles, electronics), and practice my photography. Whenever I feel like I’ve been sitting at a desk for too long, I enjoy rock climbing or cycling to get some fresh air and perspective.
